19 of Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev secured his first championship for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has endured a challenging season, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in specific - led to him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with former mentor his previous coach.

Currently training with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought competitive win over challenger Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's initial trophy following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface since that period of 2023.

Success also signifies he has achieved 21 championships at 21 different events.

"It's the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters at once, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I got when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his last six finals, featuring in that event earlier this year.

The player's defensive approach and frequent outbursts on court had caused observers to question if his capacity to perform at the elite level was concluded.

However the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and compete positively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

The champion recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, winning four of the last five points to take the lead.

Both players exchanged breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his first professional championship, seized the initiative to create a decider.

The opponent rescued 4 initial opportunities in a competitive third set before Medvedev won the break to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, he secured victory with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
